February Finishes #01 : Cute Granny Bag

Hi !

Remember this project?
I've finished crocheting this bag for quite some time...just only today I manage to share the result.  It was on my WIP in the month of January. I finished hand stitched the lining using green stripe fabric with small pocket at the inside of the bag.

This is how the finished bag looks like from the front view.  The finished size of the bag is 7.5"x 2"x 7.5"(not include the handle), the size with handle is 12"x 2" x 7.5"

and this is how the closure of the bag looks like.

Happy Creating everyone!!

A Break from sewing ...

Hi everyone!!

I have given no choice but to  take a break from sewing since my machine broke down for the  last two weeks.  Anyway my crafty hand can't just do nothing...so I did something that I good with that I love to do... CROCHETING!! And these are what I have finished with... cell phone holders.  Both of  the cell phone holders are using the same pattern...Sunburst Granny Square .

I follow the Sunburst Granny Square pattern by Priscilla Hewitt ©1998 which can be found HERE

Since my cell phone is quite big I add another three rows at the top.
The finished size of the holder is 3.5" x 5".

The first cell phone holder that I've done was using  this black colour yarn with three completed rows.  It turn out too small for my cell phone. The finished size is 2.5" x 4". Since the colour was too dark, the granny square is also not so outstanding as to compare with the  above holder.

This is how the front looks like with a small button as a closure.

and this is the back.

Do you know that August month is the Granny square month over at Picot and Petals?  Well if you don't... check out her blog to see what other talented crocheters have to share.

Happy Crocheting!!

Tutorial : Granny Square Bag

Hi Everyone!!

Remember the granny square bag crocheted by my daughter? Well... today I am sharing the tutorial on how she did the squares until how to joined it all. This post did not include on how I did the handle and the lining...maybe some other day I 'll share  how I did mine..

Granny Square pattern

Materials:
Yarns(4 colors of your choice)
Hook

Abbreviation:
st - stitch
sl st - slip stitch
ch - chain
dc - double crochet

NOTE - TO CHANGE COLOR
1.  With the working yarn, make the last stitch until the end and pull up a loop of a new yarn.

 2. Drop the working yarn and let it fall to the back of your work, yarn over with the new yarn and continue with the round.

Instruction:
Start with a magic ring.

Rd. 1 - Ch 3, 15 dc into center of the magic ring, join to third ch of beginning ch with a sl st

CHANGE COLOR(pink) at round 2 follow the step as at NOTE .

Rd. 2 -Ch 3, 3dc into the same st, *skip a st,4 dc in next st*;repeat from * to *. Join to third chain of beginning ch with a sl st(8 shells)

CHANGE COLOR(yellow) at round 3follow the step as at NOTE .

Rd. 3 - Ch 3, 3 dc into the same space.  *skip next 3 st, 4 dc in next st, 4 dc into the next shell space*,  repeat * to *. Join to third chain of beginning ch with a sl st(12 shells)

CHANGE COLOR(bright yellow) at round 4follow the step as at NOTE .

Rd. 4 - Ch 3, 3 dc into the same st, 4 dc into next space between shells,  *skip next 3 st, 4 dc in next st, 4 dc in next st, skip next 3 st, 4dc into the next two space between shell, repeat * to *.

Join to third chain of beginning ch with a sl st.(16 shells)

Now you have the complete granny square.
Make 22 pieces of different combination of colors of your choice.
To finish off, ties all the loose end of the first yarn with the new yarn being joined at each round.  Leave a long enough tail to weave it in.
Arrange all the 22 pieces of granny square as picture.  Join all squares following the arrow.
And this is how your bag will looks like once all the squares have joined together.

This is how the stitch looks like at the back

Another finished bag with handle but yet to be lined. This one is using same color tone.

If you follow my tutorial in making your bag, show and tell at  Hook 'n Needle flickr group
I would love to see your bag ...thank you.

 Happy Crocheting!!

I have similar pattern  from a Japanese crocheting book ... and if you're interested to crochet one for yourself please write to me at shaza.zain@gmail.com  For the bag pattern  above I am still in the process of writing, and testing it...maybe I will come out with a step by step instructions, till then...

Crochet Along:WiP

Today I would like to share my progress on the Crochet Along that I participated at Oxford Family Blog! Item that we have to work together is a full size Sunburst Granny Square Afghan. This is the pictures of my progress for week 3

and  this is for week 4 which I crocheted up to round 5. I only completed 11 pieces of squares so far.

Honestly as at today,I only managed to crochet 30 pieces out of 88 squares that we require to have for the afghan.  I plan when I start crocheting the other 58  pieces I will complete it up to round 6 since week 5 is just around the corner.

I would also like to share my progress on the Crochet Along with Rachel at Maybe Matilda. The challenge is to crochet a Time Out Cowl!!  The completed cowl size should be 30 inches and at the moment my cowl size is 20 inches.

I need to crochet another 10 inches to complete. I plan to do it by this weekend  and will share the completed cowl in my next post!!

I'm sharing this at Ambassador Crochet

Till then Happy Crocheting!!!

For those interested to join the fun, you may visit her blog for the details... I make used all the yarns that available from my stock... since I don't have time to go shopping for new yarns.  And these are what I  choose and there will be more colours since we need to crochet 88 pieces of Granny Square...

Basically the Crochet Along is already in week 3 and since I just came back from my long holidays I only started crocheting on 10th September... and following are the squares that I've completed up to round 4 so far...total of 11 pieces only.
